Step 2 - Sturdy Huts

The only thing you need to do to develop this housing to large huts is water. There are two ways you can provide this; wells and water supplies (cisterns). These can only be built on squares located over ground water. You can find these by using the water overlay. Of the two, cisterns are by far the better choice. (I have not yet seen a situation in which wells were useful). You can find out more about water supplies here.

Here's our watered block:

Now is a good time to see the walker-sprite system in operation. Watch what happens when you put in the water supply. You will soon see a walker emerge and start wandering about. He is looking for occupied housing, and when he finds it, and if there are unemployed workers in the city, you will see blue water appear in the cistern indicating that the water supply is operational.

Shortly after that a water carrier will emerge and start roaming. Turn on the water overlay by using the "w" key. As the carrier passes housing, a column appears for each house. The fact that the column is there indicates that the house has access to water. The height of the column shows how long that house will be watered. A house must be passed once every six months by a water carrier - if not, the columns shrinks to zero, the house loses its' water coverage and devolves.

Maximum possible population of this block = 448
Prosperity cap = 10
